Magnetic Resonance Imaging
It is a medical imaging technique that uses a powerful magnetic field and radio beams to produce 3D internal images of different parts of the body, and it is used for diagnostic purposes, such as imaging veins, arteries or nerve systems in the brain, and is the best imaging type in illustrating tissueand body fluids, imaging all body joints with high accuracy, imaging of the full spinal cord, pituitary gland, and tumors.
Magnetic resonance imaging requires preparation, and the patient must remove any kind of metal from his body, such as jewelry, bracelets, or metal needles. Also, the patient must inform the doctor of any sensitivity to materials used in magnetic resonance, such as imaging aids.
Imaging Cautions
Medical staff should be informed of any implanted metal in the body such as metal plates, bolts, metal joints, or metal fragments anywhere in the patient’s body, which prevents the patient from imaging in the magnetic resonance device.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging Mechanism:
The imaging process can take approximately 10 minutes to 45 minutes.
- Imaging does not affect dental fillers and props.
- Sometimes, the patient is given earplugs to overcome the loud sounds the machine makes during the imaging.
- In case of extreme fear, there is a button inside the machine that enables the patient to stop the imaging.
- The patient is injected with a special substance to increase the clarity of the imaging if needed.
- The patient takes off the jewelry he wears before the imaging because they will affect the results of the imaging.
- The machine can handle patients up to a weight of approximately 170 kilograms.
